Deformational Brachycephaly (Flat Head) means that the whole back of the head is flat (central flatness) and extremely wide. The forehead usually protrudes, and the back of the head is vaulted. Deformational (Symmetrical) Brachycephaly is seen in 1 out of 10 children diagnosed with a head shape abnormality.
Chronic conditions such as gastric reflux can lead to the flattening of an infant’s head. This is because these conditions cause babies to lie on their backs for a long time and do not allow them to engage in prone activities. Asymmetrical Brachycephaly one of the most common deformities. It is a combination of brachycephaly and plagiocephaly. The skull is extremely wide on the sides and flat on the back. One side of the back of the skull has an asymmetrical deformity. This asymmetrical deformity is also present in the forehead. According research, Asymmetric Brachycephaly cases come second after Deformational Plagiocephaly.
